Planning for a natural burial at Morris Orchard is made easier with our specially designed Planning Guide. In it, you’ll learn about what you’ll need for visiting the natural burial ground, purchasing your preferred grave space, care and preparation before arrival, and what to expect and plan for during the funeral service.
People of all faiths and walks of life are welcome at Morris Orchard. All effort is made to accommodate desired ceremonies, including military honors, led by celebrants, faith leaders, and family and friends.
Funeral directors as well as those who are acting as their own funeral director are integral parts of the planning and holding of a graveside service. For anyone wishing to learn more about family-led home funerals in preparation for burial at Morris Orchard, we recommend visiting the Maryland Funeral Resources and Education website.
This pricing applies to normal burial hours, Monday-Friday before 3:00 PM ET. Fees include engraved memorial stone with name, date of birth, and date of death. You may add additional words for an additional fee.
You’ll know when you step into the orchard if this is the place for you. A tour gives you a sense of place that reading about it can’t. During your tour, you’ll have the opportunity to ask our stewards any questions that come up for you.
With what you’ve learned, return home to discuss your hopes and plans. Family members who have been part of the planning process will be better equipped to carry out your plans if they are in from the beginning. Encourage them to take a tour as well.
During this time, you will get to ask any lingering questions and finalize your purchase plans. You’ll be asked to sign waivers and contracts and pay for the burial at this time.
Not only will it act as a guide for those carrying out your plans but writing them down will consolidate them for you. This is when you can create more detailed plans for the service, what products you’d like to use, such as the biodegradable casket or shroud, who will prepare the body, who will handle the clerical details and transportation. Designing your ceremony, if you wish for one, can be deeply meaningful to you and immeasurably helpful to your family and friends.
Make sure all the important people in your life know what and where the plans are, including contact information for key helpers, especially Morris Orchard. Sharing has two benefits: it makes the pathway clear, but it also sends a message of inclusion, care, and trust to those who have been entrusted with your final act.
At Morris Orchard, we are committed to preserving the beauty of the land while offering a meaningful way to honor the lives of those who have passed. Our natural burial practices are designed to minimize environmental impact, support native ecosystems, and provide a lasting legacy of care for future generations.
